12 Days of Holiday Sweets: Chocolate-Almond Cookies

Smart home cooks who find themselves in the frantic throes of holiday baking turn to the basics when they need a surefire hit. Christmas office party right around the corner? A plate of cookies never fails to please. These crispy, crumbly chocolate-almond cookies get their rich flavor from a good ½ cup of sweet, anise-flavored Galliano liqueur and more than a touch of coffee. Even better, the texture of these cookies resembles biscotti, so if you're finishing dinner with a glass of red wine, give one of these cookies a little dip in your glass, and savor at least one moment of calm during this hectic season. —The Editors

I want to make these cookies, but I don't want to pay the money for the Galliano liquer (we don't drink). Can I use something else to substitute?
