The Menu

Planning Tips

  1. The stuffed cherry peppers and the caramel tart should be made the day before serving to allow plenty of time for them to marinate and set.

  2. The braciola takes about three hours to prepare, so be sure to leave plenty of time to make it.

  3. Beef seared and simmered in hearty tomato gravy demands a full-bodied red wine. For some great bottles, see our round-up of six great reds that hail from the Basilicata region of Italy.

  4. The Utica greens call for escarole, but any other bitter leafy green, like arugula or kale, works well too. Omit the prosciutto for a vegetarian side.

Where is the pasta? Where is the chicken with lemon? No chocolate cake? Our Italian family on Long Island enjoyed Sunday dinner at our house. We usually started about 2PM with many courses and a lot of fun. The hit was a chocolate cake from Ebbinger's bakery near my Aunt's house in Brooklyn. I miss those family gatherings and all the food we shared.

Gee, what is the cut of meat for brasciole called here in Canada, in Quebec specifically. Chuck is not a term used here.
