FROM THE RECIPE:

This Boston Cream Pie has four components: The cake, the custard filling, the chocolate frosting, and the toasted almonds. All of them need to be made, then cooled completely before assembling. You can always make all the parts the night before, then assemble the cake the next day. If you do that, just bring the chocolate frosting up to room temperature before coating the cake to loosen it up a little. Once the cake is assembled, plan enough time to chill it for an hour or two before serving.

This is a great recipe for Boston Cream Pie. And the step by step pictures are wonderfully helpful. My big mistake was not letting the chocolate ganache cool completely outside the fridge. I let it get relatively cool and then popped it in the fridge, which gave it an uneven texture. But great recipe nontheless!

Just finished this great receipe. Receipes like this one are well worth it. I can't make gravy's or custard's with flour, so I used corn starch instead and one extra egg yolk. Also omitted the almonds and put the chocolate on the side. Again, great receipe.

Sorry, forgot to rate it. There is nothing like a homemade cake. All you ladies with girls, teach your girls how to bake. I have two sons and they were raised on homemade receipes like this one. My mother would roll over in her grave if I bought a box cake. Thanks Saveur for looking and creating these great receipes on the web.
