Twentieth Century Cocktail

This 1937 British cocktail, named for a train that ran between Manhattan and Chicago for much of the twentieth century, strikes an unexpected balance between velvety crème de cacao and refreshing gin, lemon juice, and Lillet.

MAKES 1 COCKTAIL

INGREDIENTS

1½ oz. gin
¾ oz. Lillet Blanc
½ oz. light crème de cacao
½ oz. fresh lemon juice
1 lemon twist, to garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine gin, Lillet Blanc, crème de cacao, and juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice; cover and shake until chilled, about 15 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and top with lemon twist.
