MAKES ABOUT 2 TBSP.
Indian families hand down their garam masala recipes from generation to generation; though the basic recipe doesn't change much, each family makes their masala their own.
1 tsp. black peppercorns
1⁄2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tbsp. cardamom seeds
1 tsp. cumin seeds
1 tsp. cloves
1⁄3 whole nutmeg
1. Grind together peppercorns, cinnamon, cardamom seeds, cumin seeds, cloves, and nutmeg into a powder.
