How to Cook Quinoa

Here's how to cook quinoa perfectly every time. Because you drain the boiled quinoa and let it rest under a clean towel, the grains are fluffy - never soggy or burnt.

SERVES 4

1 cup quinoa
1 tbsp. salt

In a 4-qt. pot, bring 6 cups of water and 1 tbsp. salt to a boil. Add quinoa and simmer 12-15 minutes until tender and grains have separated. Remove from heat and drain quinoa in a fine mesh sieve. Set sieve back over empty pot, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let rest 15 minutes.

Thanks for the tip! I have always just allowed for the water to absorb. I will definitely try draining the quinoa from now on :)

@MyFareFoodie, you'll love it. The grains have the perfect amount of give when made this way.

I am surprised to see the salt added at the begining, my Bolivian and Peruvian friends told me to add the salt ttowards the end. Can you comment?

We found that adding the salt to the water before cooking did not adversely affect the texture of the quinoa. I hope you'll give it a try!
