in my opinion, Grom is the best on this list, followed by L'Arte del Gelato, but the best gelato in the neighborhood -- in the city, as far as I know -- is at Otto on 8th Street just east of 5th ave.

You can take out there. Yes it costs something like seven bucks, but it's a portion big enough for two, it's amazing, and you get flavors like olive oil, salted caramel, lemon basil...

Rocco's is the sentimental favorite, however. Good lemon ice, not much else. Great pignoli cookies there too.
