Suffering Fools

MATT TAYLOR-GROSS

This bourbon and gin drink from wd~50 and Alder mastermind Kevin Denton is inspired by the Suffering Bastard, a classic cocktail developed during in Cairo during WWII. It's a great cocktail to make ahead in batches for a party; Denton suggests scaling it up and pre-diluting it with water instead of ice for consistent quality. Start with an additional ¼ ounce and add water, bit by bit, until it tastes the way it should.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. bourbon
  • 1 oz. fresh ginger juice
  • 1 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz. gin, preferably Beefeater
  • 12 oz. honey
  • Cucumber slice, for garnish

Instructions

Step 1

Combine bourbon, juices, gin, honey, and 3 ounces water in a cocktail shaker filled with ice; shake vigorously and strain into a Collins glass filled with ice. Garnish with cucumber slice.
