Tokyo: Hotel Chinzanso

When I arrive at the Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo, I'm jittery and addled from navigating the Chutes and Ladders game that is the Tokyo public transportation system. But the moment I step into the welcoming elegance of the lobby, where crystal chandeliers, marble floors and antique furniture conspired to create an atmosphere of understated luxury, my nerves start to settle. My bags are whisked away by a porter, and before I know it, the curtains in my room are being drawn back and I'm gazing over a sumptuous landscape of wild camellia trees and, just beyond it, twinkling Tokyo high-rises.
