Unspoiled by mass tourism, Kea is a well-kept secret location –-an island in the Aegean where a select group of Athenians build summer villas. One hour by ferry from the port of Lavrio --a 35-minute drive from Athens International Airport-- Kea is easily accessible even by people who want to bypass the bustling Athens area.
Our property has vegetable gardens, grape vines, olive and almond trees, as well as most of the well-known and some rare Mediterranean herbs and flowers. Guests harvest produce from the garden and use it for the hands-on cooking classes, making authentic Greek-Mediterranean dishes. These we all enjoy during leisurely meals al fresco paired with exquisite Greek wines. Olive oil and wine tastings, and sampling of more than a dozen artisanal cheeses from all over the country are part of the schedule.
In the summer we pick almonds, crack them open and make traditional sweets, while in the fall guests take part in the olive harvest, learn to cure green and black olives, and savor the very first extra virgin olive oil extracted on the spot with our small olive press.
In addition to swimming in crystal-clear blue waters, we offer guided nature hikes through spectacular stone-paved paths, the old mule roads. Visits to the archeological museum and to the classical and the neolithic sites will help the guests connect to the island’s rich past.
