HELEN ROSNER

This jammy, spicy, pleasingly tart cocktail is served at New York restaurant Daniel to celebrate the Academy Awards. There, the bartenders spritz bitters over the foamy top in the shape of an Oscar statuette, and deliver a gold-dipped red carpet tuile on the side. For those without a bitters stencil on hand, we find a dusting of edible gold glitter conveys a sufficient amount of glitz.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. vodka
  • 2 oz. fresh bergamot juice or 1 oz. each grapefruit and orange juice
  • 12 oz. simple syrup
  • 2 tsp. pear jam
  • 1 (1/4") piece ginger, peeled and finely grated
  • 1 egg white
  • Dash Angostura bitters
  • Edible gold, for garnish

Instructions

Step 1

Combine vodka, juice, syrup, jam, ginger, and egg white in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled martini glass; garnish with bitters and edible gold, if you like.
