Flour Sack Towels

Flour sack towels are my constant kitchen companions. Made from soft, lint-free flour sack cotton and sold everywhere from Amazon.com to Bed Bath & Beyond, they're strong, sheer, and absorbent. I keep one hanging sinkside for drying dishes and for draping over my rolls as they rise. And they won't leave fuzz on my glassware. —Susan Betz, Morgan Hill, California

My mother-in-law just gifted me with a nice set for Christmas. I love getting kitchen towels and such as gifts! I truly do. I think of the person who gave it to me each time I use it. And there are bound to be motifs that I might not have chose for myself but grow to love.

About flour sack towels though, I love them for their lint-free drying power and bleach-ability. In my mother's kitchen woe to those who dry their hands on the dish towels! Only terrycloth towels are to be used for the hands. You'll find them hanging off the handle of the fridge. The dish towels are always up out of the way on the top of the blender.

Oh yes, I forgot. I also use them in place of cheese cloth for making jelly from whole berries. The berry stains bleach right out of them!!

These are also called side towels in a restaurant type kitchen. Super absorbent, however, you can purchase them cheaper at any restaurant supply store. Need a 100? They will give you a steep discount.

Happy cooking!
