Maple-Bacon Popcorn

Smoky bacon, sweet maple, and a kick of black pepper make for an entirely addictive bowl of popcorn.

1 tsp. olive oil
1 pound thick-cut bacon
3/4 cup maple syrup
1 tsp. fresh-ground black pepper
½ tsp. salt
6 cups basic popcorn

1. Preheat an oven to 350°. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add bacon strips and cook until crisp, turning occasionally. Remove bacon to a paper towel-lined plate; reserve 2 tablespoons bacon drippings.

2. Crumble bacon. Toss bacon, drippings, maple syrup, black pepper, and salt with popcorn. Spread popcorn mixture in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheets and bake for 10 minutes, rotating trays halfway through, stirring occasionally. Serve hot.

Maybe I did something wrong, but my popcorn seemed to disintegrate under the topping. Also, I think it had too much pepper for my taste. Disappointed:(

I spread the popcorn and cooked bacon out onto the cookie sheet, then drizzled the maples syrup mixture over it, tossed it, spread it into a single layer and let it cook about 12 minutes and the popcorn maintained its integrity. The flavor is amazing, and I love the sharpness of the black pepper paired with the sweet maple syrup.
Love this recipe!!! Found it on pinterest:) Love the combo flavors of the maple and the bacon with the salty and buttery popcorn. I had never had anything close to this before. Adapted it slightly to make it a topping that isn't baked in so we could include it at a church event which included a popcorn bar and posted on my blog here:
