Ginger Gold Rush

This is a twist on a whiskey sour variation called the Gold Rush, traditionally a simple concoction of bourbon, honey, and fresh lemon juice. Here, we replace the honey with a ginger liqueur, which adds an exotic kick without the need for a flavored syrup or bitters, resulting is a bright spicy note that plays well with the oaky bourbon.

MAKES 1 DRINK

1 1/2 oz ginger liqueur (like Domaine de Canton)

Put the brandied cherry in the bottom of a martini glass. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain over the cherry into the glass.

THAT is a good drink! Light, lemony and the ginger liquer gives it just the kick it needs.

Wow! This drink sounds great. Haven't tried it yet but i am inspired to get the ingredients and welcome the warmer weather to come with a Gold Rush!

Great Fall drink, a bit on the sweet side but a great way to start a party. I'll sometimes use rye whiskey instead of the bourbon to give it a bit more of a bite.
A drop or two of bitters might add a note to balance the sweetness and I think rye would be worth a try to a little extra depth of flavor. All in all a very tasty cocktail as written.
Giving it a 4 for inspiration. Added a bit of simple syrup, used whiskey plus a splash of bitters... Awesome!
