20th Annual James Beard Foundation Awards

It's a night of nights for culinary professionals throughout America, as they prepare to celebrate the James Beard Foundation Awards—the "Oscars of the food world"—and SAVEUR's own editor-in-chief, James Oseland, is one of the nominees.

The two-day event begins with the Media Awards Dinner, which will be held Sunday evening at the Hudson Theater at the Millennium Broadway Hotel, and concludes Monday evening with the sold-out Awards Ceremony and Gala Reception at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall. Awards will be given in 62 categories, including those for restaurants, chefs, journalism, broadcast media, restaurant design, and cookbooks.

Oseland's nomination is in the Book Awards: Asian Cooking category, for his well-received cookbook, Cradle of Flavor: Home Cooking from the Spice Islands of Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia (W.W. Norton, 2006), which chronicles his passion for the food, people, and culture of this far-flung corner of the world.
