Congratulations to our own James Oseland, Editor-in-Chief of SAVEUR magazine, who has been nominated for a James Beard Award for his recently published cookbook, Cradle of Flavor: Home Cooking from the Spice Islands of Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia (W.W. Norton, 2006).
Prior to joining SAVEUR, Oseland devoted some 20 years to the culture and cuisine of this exotic and fascinating, though little known, corner of the world. _Cradle of Flavor _is a culmination of sorts of his life there, reflecting his passion for the foods and people he encountered through personal anecdotes, regional techniques and traditions, and flavorful recipes that do full justice to the cuisine of the aptly named Spice Islands.
The prestigious awards are bestowed by the James Beard Foundation in recognition of outstanding achievement in the fine food and beverage industry. The awards ceremonies will take place May 6-7 in New York City.
