A few years ago, my mind was blown by a kitchen sink. (I may indeed be a simpleton.) A chef I knew had installed a foot pedal-operated faucet in his house, so when his hands were covered in oil or butter or flour or chicken glop, he could turn on the water with his feet. Brilliant, I thought! I want one.

As it turns out, they cost a pretty penny and require ripping out existing plumbing, something my New York City landlord wasn't too keen on. So when I came across Joseph Joseph's C-Pump single-handed soap dispenser, I figured okay—baby steps.

It's a bit of a revelation in the hand-washing department. One single backhanded pump and you've got all the soap you need to scrub your hands of kitchen grease. And the smart design means that you never have to get any hand grime on the pump itself—no plumbing reconfiguration necessary.
