The icy-cold waters of Maine are perfect for growing oysters year-round. In the Damariscotta River just outside of Waldoboro, Jeff “Smokey” McQueen and his two partners, both marine scientists, are cultivating oysters with an extraordinarily clean, balanced flavor. What started as an experiment has grown into their 25-year-old commercial venture, the Pemaquid Oyster Company.
