Great American Ice Cream Shops - Photo Gallery - Photo 1 | SAVEUR.com

A summer afternoon visit to the local ice cream shop is a pleasure hard to equal. But the old struggle to choose between chocolate and vanilla is a thing of the past: a renaissance in wild ice cream flavor innovation means we've got to pick among options like red velvet cupcake, honey lavender, Bangkok peanut, and plum sake sorbet (not to mention the occasional scoop of crawfish or wasabi). These 16 American ice cream shops are worth seeking out for their amazing flavors, delectable toppings, and dedicated and often innovative approach to our favorite summer treat.

Great list and amazing photos! If you do another list next year.... consider checking out this amazing little shop called Ice Cream Renaissance on Main St. in downtown Vancouver, WA http://www.icecreamrenaissance.com/
They definitely live up to their "Dessert Destination" claim.

In regards to Ice Cream Renaissance, I am an ice cream lover. Every time I visit there their product quality, sadly, diminishes. I feel like I am eating ice milk not ice cream. I drive from Vancouver to Salt and Straw, which is worth the drive. Sorry, but perhaps someone needs to tell them so that they can regain their ice cream position, with a superior product.
