Menu: A Homemade Pizza Party

Everyone loves a pizza party! But this is no elementary school birthday party; this is a full-out feast of grown-up pies, best enjoyed with everyone pitching in for pizza creation together. Invite eight to ten of your friends over, open a few bottles of wine, and spend the evening assembling topping and baking your pies — just be sure to make a lot of dough the night before. Split up the prep work on the day of dinner by assigning each guest to bring their own favorite pizza toppings. This is a meal to eat in stages, as each new pizza comes out of the oven, cut into small slices so everyone can have a taste.

More About This Menu

  1. Rather than making five different kinds of pizza dough, ignore the dough portions of each of these pizza recipes, and make five batches of this crust the day before your pizza party. Then use the other recipes simply for their toppings, or improvise your own unique topping combinations. For more pizza inspiration, see our pizza recipe collection »

  2. For this menu, you want wines that pair easily with a variety of foods, and don't cost too much per bottle so you can serve them generously for a crowd. Serve at least one and one white so guests can choose their preference. For our favorite bottles for entertaining, see this guide »

  3. If you're serving a crowd, the mousse recipe will need to be doubled. You can also serve the mouse with delicate wafer cookies, such as Lavender Tuiles or Gingersnaps.

  4. When making pizza dough, the type of flour you use can make a difference. Our test kitchen prefers Caputo 00 flour for the perfect crust.

  5. Pizza originated in southern Italy, but it took on a life of its own here. Discover the history of American pizza in Any Way You Slice It »

Yay! What a great article. I've been hosting and promoting making pizza at home for a couple of years until my passion for throwing pizza parties (Pizza Club) became my full time job. It started simply enough I made doughs and sauce, threw out a them for the party (think your favorite pizza based on a soup or being inspired by local produce). Then invited guests to bring toppings to make the pizza of their choice. By the end of the night the kitchen counter is filled with all different ingredients and amazing pizzas were coming out of the oven. http://www.richmondmagazine.com/?articleID=9f25a58e93aa1bfd60dfb165ea53654e These pizza clubs sparked what has become my full time job. www.pizzatonight.com Getting together over pizza and wine, artisan beers and fantastic ingredients is the best way to spend an evening. And a great way to make a living!

I also have been a big fan of Pizza Partys, mostly with my wife and three daughters. Using the conventional pizza peel has always been a challenge for us. So I invented the peel apart Pizza Paddles. Instead of pushing and pulling your pizzas, the peel apart Pizza Paddles use a much easier to control side to side action, so no more spilled toppings or squished dough. Check them out at www.pizzapaddles.com you will love them.
