Olive and Sinclair Chocolate

By Helen Rosner

Published on August 2, 2011

In our experience, about half the joy of a chocolate bar is the anticipation: the promises conveyed by the packaging, the precise unfolding of a paper wrapper, the reckless tearing of a foil corner. On all these counts, Olive and Sinclair delivers: their bars are objects of beauty, with beautiful letterpress-inspired wrappers with a decidedly vintage sensibility and a terrifically tear-into-friendly foil. They do a pretty bang-up job when it comes to actually eating the bar, as well: with cocoa beans roasted and stone-ground in small batches at their Nashville, Tennessee facility, their bars take unexpected flavors like Salt & Pepper, Mexican Cinnamon-Chili, and (our favorite) Double Chocolate Nibs, where bitter cacao nibs are suspended in only-slightly-less-bitter dark chocolate. It's a very grown-up candy bar, but we're giddy as children when we take a bite.
