This 1937 British cocktail, named for a train that ran between Manhattan and Chicago for much of the twentieth century, strikes an unexpected balance between velvety creme de cacao and refreshing gin, lemon juice, and Lillet.

Ingredients

  • 1 <sup>1</sup>⁄<sub>2</sub> oz. gin
  • <sup>3</sup>⁄<sub>4</sub> oz. Lillet Blanc
  • <sup>1</sup>⁄<sub>2</sub> oz. light crème de cacao
  • <sup>1</sup>⁄<sub>2</sub> oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 1 lemon twist, to garnish

Instructions

  • Combine gin, Lillet Blanc, crème de cacao, and juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice; cover and shake until chilled, about 15 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and top with lemon twist.
