Created as a marketing vehicle in the 1940s by John Martin, owner of Smirnoff, and his friend Jack Morgan of Los Angeles’ Cock and Bull Tavern, this vodka-and–ginger beer libation is traditionally served in a copper mug.
This simple, classic three-ingredient cocktail is a bracing mix of vodka, spicy ginger beer, and bright lime juice.
Yield: makes 1 cocktail
4 oz. ginger beer
2 oz. vodka
1 lime wedge
Stir ginger beer and vodka in a copper mule cup filled with crushed ice; squeeze lime wedge over top and drop into cup.
