Hot Chai Toddy
The warm spices in chai echo the flavor of a typical clove-infused toddy. The addition of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, and flinty black pepper, coupled with the tannic tang of the tea, made this warming drink even more appealing. Get the recipe for Hot Chai Toddy ». Helen Rosner

This hot toddy recipe calls for spiced black chai to create a warming, deeply-spiced, pleasantly tannic drink. The measurements specified for the honey and lemon juice are how we best enjoy the cocktail, but you can add both ingredients to your taste.

Yield: makes 1 cocktail

  • 1 bag black tea with chai spices
  • 8 oz. hot water
  • 1 tbsp. honey
  • 1 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 2 oz. bourbon
  • Lemon wedge

  1. Pour the hot water over the tea in a heat-proof glass or mug. Add the honey and stir until completely dissolved. Allow to steep for 3 to 4 minutes, then discard the tea bag. Add lemon juice and bourbon and stir until combined. Garnish with the lemon wedge.
