On a recent journey to the magnificent Terrain at Styer's, a home and garden mecca located outside of Philadelphia, I discovered the pumpkin carving tool to trump all pumpkin carving tools. Sturdy, sleek, and sophisticated, this handy device is the antithesis of those flimsy carving knives with rickety, plastic handles that I used as a child. An easy-to-grip black walnut base serves as the host for seven interchangeable steel blades, each capable of cutting through even the toughest of pumpkins. As an added bonus, it doubles as a tool to prep hard-skinned vegetables, such as squash.
