This elegant, uncommon drink (essentially a sidecar made with gin) is an interesting alternative to run-of-the-mill cocktails.
Yield: makes 1 cocktail

For the Sour Mix (makes 1 cup)

  • 1 small egg white
  • 1 tbsp. fine sugar
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice

For the Cocktail

  • 1 12 oz. sour mix
  • 1 12 oz. gin
  • 34 oz. Cointreau
  • 13 tsp. sugar


  1. Make the sour mix: Whisk together until sugar is dissolved and egg white is fully incorporated.
  2. Make the cocktail: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add sour mix, gin, Cointreau, and sugar. Shake vigorously, then pour into a chilled martini glass.
